Sweden's Ambassador to Canada, Ingrid Iremark, on her country's experience since the 1970s in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and yet still growing its economy. The interview is a sneak preview of a presentation she gave on Earth Day 2008 at the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.
It comes out later in the interview, but I should have brought it out at the start: she says since 1990 the Swedish economy grew by 4 to 6%, yet greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 9%.
It helps of course that Sweden isn't an oil producing country. But the interview does offer a glimpse of what's possible, and most importantly I think, that it really isn't that complicated.
