Child Care and Parental Leave in Sweden
Child Care and Parental Leave in Sweden
In Canada we appear stuck on the debate of choosing between publicly funded affordable child care for all, or handing out a child benefit and letting parents decide. Why not both, like in Sweden?
I speak with Prof. Anita Nyberg of the Swedish National Institute for Working Life and Prof. Rianne Mahon of Carleton University as we discuss Sweden's child care system (child care is viewed as a right for all children) and parental leave plan (up to 16 months, 2 of which the father must take!).
